Information Visualization in Desktop Virtual Reality
نویسندگان
چکیده
Desktop virtual reality (VR) offers a powerful environment for visualizing structure in large information sets. In well-designed virtual worlds, users can employ skills from wayfinding in the real world. This paper reports the development and testing of a series of prototype VR worlds, designed to support navigation during information visualization and retrieval. Results indicated that users’ sense of presence, ease of use and preference were affected by degree of spatial cueing, but target-hunting performance was not. The virtual world with strongest spatial cues caused poorer user performance than a comparable hypertext interface, but was rated as more enjoyable. The final VR prototype was no worse than hypertext in user performance; the prototype shows the potential for navigable VR that is engaging and useful for everyday information exploration.

Study of 3D Visualization Software for Geo-Science Applications
The aim of this study was to assess how certain tools in 3D volume visualization software aid physical scientists in their visual analysis of 3D data sets. The KeckCaves collaboration has lead to continuing development of a 3D volume visualization software package called Visualizer, which is built on the Virtual Reality User Interface (VRUI) Toolkit designed by Oliver Kreylos. Visualizer can be...

متن کاملA Hybrid Decision Support System for 3d City Planning
In recent years virtual reality based geographic information systems (VRGIS) have been employed successfully to accomplish city planning tasks. Tracking technologies and stereoscopic visualization of three-dimensional structures support the user to gain a better insight into complex datasets. Moreover, large projection-based displays have considerable potential to enable collaboration in coloca...
متن کاملVisualization Based on Geographic Information in Augmented Reality
This chapter is a study on the visualization techniques of geographic information in an augmented reality environment, focusing on its user interface. Augmented reality is a technology that superimposes information over a real scene, enhancing the real world with the scene-linked information. The information is overlaid onto the real scene, dynamically based on the user’s viewpoint. When mixed ...
متن کاملImmersive Data Visualization with Virtual Reality
There has been a resurgence of interest in Virtual Reality (VR) with the advent of several consumer-ready head mounted displays. And while VR has a long standing tradition in graphics literature traceable to the early 90’s, little research has been conducted on the implications of modern VR and 3D displays on Data Visualization. In this work we explore how to create immersive 3D data visualizat...
